Somerset County is funding a new program to teach English language to adults for free. First Steps Basic English is an 18-month pilot program is being overseen by the Greater Raritan Workforce Development Board in partnership with the Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County, Raritan Valley Community College, Hunterdon County Educational Services Commission, and public library partners.

The 36,018 square foot Demott Lane Branch is located in the Franklin Township municipal complex and provides a large community room for library programming, as well as additional meeting room space for community groups, study rooms, public access computers, and more.
