Community RoomLearn how data centers impact electricity bills, grid strain, and air and noise pollution. Presented by a member of the Raritan Valley Group Sierra Club.
The fast growth of generative AI is driving a surge in data centers, which are the "lifeblood" of this technology, and these centers bring costs that hit close to home. This non-partisan talk explains, in simple terms:
• What generative AI is and who the major players are
• How data centers work and why they use so much energy and water
• New Jersey's high electricity bills, new grid strain, and air and noise pollution
• The transparency gap: why there is little regulation or public reporting on any of it
This program is presented by an Event Lead from Sierra Club - Raritan Valley Group. The Sierra Club is one of the oldest and largest grassroots environmental organizations in the U.S., celebrating over 130 years of defending everyone's right to a healthy world.
Registration is appreciated but not required.
