Explore the history of our local waterways, as well as stormwater management strategies community members can adopt on the path to improved environmental health.
In this presentation, in partnership with the Franklin Township Environmental Commission, Heather Fenyk, Ph.D, will provide a brief history of the Lower Raritan Watershed from indigenous to colonial and industrial development to its current status, provide a snapshot overview of the health of the streams and tributaries that feed into the Raritan River, the history of the pollutants in the river and how cleanup has evolved.
Building from this contextualization, she will then speak to the need to think regionally (from a watershed perspective) if we want clean water in the future. Throughout the presentation she will highlight stormwater management strategies and other tactics that community members can adopt on the path to improved environmental health.
Heather Fenyk, PhD, AICP/PP is Lecturer at Rutgers' Schools of Planning & Policy and Environmental and Biological Sciences. She is also the Founder and President of the Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership (LRWP), New Jersey’s newest watershed association.
