Have you ever watched Olympic curling and wondered what they were doing? Join us as a member of the Plainfield Curling Club, New Jersey's only dedicated curling club, demystifies the sport!
Sometimes called "chess on ice," curling is a winter sport where players slide granite stones across the ice, toward targets, and other players sweep the ice with curling brooms to try and influence where the stone will stop. Whether you're a curious spectator or interested in getting on the ice yourself, this program will be the perfect introduction to the sport!
Join us to learn about the following and more:
- The history of the sport, which dates back to 16th century Scotland
- What every member of a curling team's job is, and what they're doing when you watch the sport
- How the game is played, scored, and what everything is called
- Curling brooms, shoes, and other equipment
- The Plainfield Curling Club and their upcoming Open House, scheduled for February 7, 2026
The Plainfield Curling Club is New Jersey’s original curling club and only dedicated curling facility. The home of good people, good times, good curling, Plainfield Curling Club is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to fostering the sport and spirit of curling.

About the branch
The 36,018 square foot Demott Lane Branch is located in the Franklin Township municipal complex and provides a large community room for library programming, as well as additional meeting room space for community groups, study rooms, public access computers, and more.
